Overview of Recent Teaching and Learning at NAS 

一年级:一年级学生通过几周的学习,已经很好地适应了他们的日常生活。同时,通过学校开展的德育课程,孩子们也充分获得种种成为一名优秀学生的条件。在学校这个大家庭中学习,让孩子们开始意识到学校不仅仅存在和他们一样作为学生的角色,同时还有很多不同的角色和岗位。比如:教授他们知识的各学科老师以及支持学校管理的行政老师们。

在学习上,学生们积极投身于各个学科的课程中,享受学习新知识的兴奋感。在语文课上,一年级的孩子们学习了如何书写汉字。同样地,在英文课上,老师们也传递给孩子们字母“A”的表达。数学课中,孩子们开始认识数字1到5的样子。在科学课上,他们也开始研究起不同植物的特征。美术课上,学生们通过学习到有关画家蒙德里安的故事,根据红,黄,蓝三原色完成和展现属于他们自己的作品。在体育课上,孩子们积极参与到体育活动中,致力发展和锻炼自身的协调能力,为他们今后的学习和工作做准备。在音乐课上,充满活力的孩子们则通过学习四拍、三拍、二拍,一拍和半拍的节奏表达乐谱上跳跃的音符以及乐曲中优美的旋律。

Grade 1: Our youngest learners have settled nicely into their routines. As part of their Moral Education course, children have been learning what it means to be a good student. They are learning that they are part of a community and are beginning to learn that there are many other people in their school community who perform a number of different jobs.
 
The students have been actively learning in other subject areas, too. In Chinese, they are learning how to write characters, while in English, they have been learning about the letter, “A.” In math, children have been learning about the numbers 1 to 5 and in science, they have been investigating plant life. In the specialist courses, students have been studying about the artist Mondrian and using primary colors to recreate some of his works. In physical education, students are developing their coordination skills which will serve them well in future units. In music, children are learning about rhythms using staff notation using 4, 3, 2 and 1 half beat notes.

二年级:二年级学生们的在校学习令人兴奋。在数学课上,学生们不仅学习了如何进行数字计量,而且还学习了两位数的加减法。语文课中,学生们认识了很多包括植物和动物在内的汉字,并学习了对于他们而言全新的汉字书写。在属于孩子们国际小学课程中,学生们研究了大脑的构造,并且通过美术课,制作了大脑的神经元模型。除此之外,在美术课上,画家毕加索的学习,让孩子们能够充分了解关于他的故事,从而临摹和创作有关画家毕加索的作品。体育课上,孩子们已经不仅仅局限于简单的拉伸运动,他们已经开始学习篮球技巧。在篮球技巧学习中,孩子们在加强个人身体素质的同时,也学习和继承了良好的体育精神。音乐课上,老师除了教授孩子们四拍、三拍、二拍、一拍和半拍的节奏,他们也开始认识不同的打击乐器以及乐器的英文名称。同时,音乐老师还给孩子们听了一些具有非洲风格和背景的歌曲进行训练。

Grade 2: The students in grade 2 have been engaged in some exciting projects. In math, the students have been studying measurement and double-digit addition and subtraction. In Chinese Studies, students have been learning new characters and have been learning about plants and animals. In their International Primary Years course, students have been studying about the brain and in art class, they made models of neurons. Student also have been learning about Picasso and have recreated some of his works. In physical education, the children have started their basketball unit and are learning good sportsmanship. In music, the students have been learning four, three, two, one and half beat notes at varying speeds. They are beginning to learn the English names for percussion and musical instruments. We have also been moving to various English and African songs.

三年级:在语文课上,语文老师向孩子们讲解人物描写的小作文。音乐课中,学生们开始学习属于诺校的英文校歌,孩子们边听音乐边通过不同的节拍练习歌曲,十分欢快。在德育课中,学生们学习到情绪和情感的表达从而在今后的学习和生活中正确表达自己。在美术课上,孩子们认识了基本的美术工具并通过工具制作了属于自己的名片。在第二周的双语美术课上,小朋友们学习关于著名画家米罗的故事,同时根据米罗的创作特点在咖啡纸上绘制了精美的图像,两周的美术课三年级小朋友线条大胆流畅,想象奇特,机灵飞扬的画笔充满整个课堂。在体育课中,学生们仍旧投入于他们篮球课程的学习。最后,在数学课上,学生们学习到用时、分和秒来计算时间,同时,他们也学习到一万以内的加减法。

Grade 3: In Chinese Studies, the students have been learning how to write compositions about people. In music, students have just started to learn the school song, which will be in English. They have performed various rhythms in both simple duple and triple meter. They have played them whilst listen to music with various time signatures. In moral education, students are learning about feelings and emotions and how to express themselves. In art, the children initially got to know the basic art tools and made a name card of their own. In the second week of bilingual art class, the children learned the story of the famous painter named Miro, and drew images on coffee paper according to his creation characteristics. In physical education, students are also engaged in their basketball unit. Finally, in math, students have been learning about time using the hour, minute and second. addition and subtraction within ten thousand this week.
四年级:四年级的学生们很享受他们的学习时光,在课堂中也很投入。在数学课上,学生们已经开始学习超过1亿和1千亿的数字,以及近似数的表达。在音乐课上,学生们也已经开始学习属于学校的英文校歌。通过四拍、三拍、二拍,一拍和半拍的节奏学习表达乐谱上跳跃的音符以及乐曲中优美的旋律。在体育课上,学生们乐于学习篮球的各种技巧。在学习期间,学生们不仅加深了彼此的友谊,更是意识到了团队合作的重要性。

Grade 4: Students in grade 4 are enjoying their studies and are participating well in class. In math, students have learnt the numbers more than one hundred million, more than one hundred billion and approximate numbers. In music, students have started to learn the school song, which will be in English. By investigating simple and compound time signatures they have performed various rhythms in two, three and four beats in a bar. They have performed other songs from both English and African cultures. In physical education, students have been learning basketball skills. Students were very cooperative, very happy, and are learning technical movements while deepening the friendship among themselves.

五年级:五年级的孩子们这几周在学校度过了美好的学习时光,孩子们对于学习的热情和好奇心使得他们闪耀着无限的光芒。自从开学以来,五年级学生在英文课程中的重点一直是英语语法的学习,语法的学习为他们未来语言的学习打下夯实的基础,孩子们也很投入并且很享受这个过程。美术课上,学生们不仅学习了透视的基本原理和知识,而且还通过创作四季水彩画,体验水彩画带给他们新鲜的感受和无限的乐趣。孩子们对待每一幅画都如此地认真,使得每一幅画在造型和色彩上都具有各自的特色和创意。在数学方面,学科老师教授孩子们关于小数的乘法,孩子们在他们的学习过程中也表现出了积极的态度和高度的配合。音乐课上,学生们也已经开始学习属于学校的英文校歌,同时通过聆听不同打击乐器产生的音频学习打击乐器的制作材料。科学课上,孩子们学习到有关植物种子的知识。比如,什么是种子?种子的生长需要哪些必要条件?

Grade 5: The children in Grade 5 have had a wonderful first two weeks in which their enthusiasm and curiosity has shone through. Since school started, the focus in our English classes has been on grammar. The students are quite engaged and enjoying their lessons. In art, students learned the basic knowledge of perspective and experienced the joy of watercolor painting by creating watercolor paintings of the four seasons. The Grade 5 students were serious about every painting and were creative in both shape and color. In math, the class has been focusing on the multiplication of decimals and once again, they have been very active in the learning process. In music, students have started to learn the school song and listen to percussion instruments and learn the materials in which they are made of. In science, children are learning about seeds and what are the necessary conditions for seeds to grow.

六年级:六年级学生们已经很好地适应了他们的在校学习时光,并且享受着课堂学习带给他们的快乐。在英语课上,六年级的学生们通过学习了解到英语中基本的语法,并且掌握语法的概念。比如,名词、形容词、动词和基本的句子结构。语法的学习,让学生们不仅能够合理使用英语中的不同词性,同时也可以让老师了解到每一位学生的英文水平从而因材施教,助力每一位学生,保证学生能够有效掌握知识点。除此之外,从现在开始直至之后的英文学习中,孩子们也将一直保持听,说,读,写的练习用以加强和巩固。在科学课堂上,孩子们学习了关于植物的方方面面,课外活动的形式也让他们有机会接触到更多种植于学校的各种植物,这种实践的方式令孩子们再次加深对于植物的认知,也令他们十分兴奋。音乐课上,学生们也已经开始学习属于学校的英文校歌,同时通过聆听不同打击乐器产生的音频学习打击乐器的制作材料。

Grade 6: Students have settled so well into their routines and are enjoying their classes. In English, we have been exploring basic grammatical concepts such as nouns, adjectives, verbs and basic sentence structure. This was all in an effort to understand each child’s English level. As of next we can continue working on speaking, reading and writing activities. In science, children are learning about plants. They were excited to take their learning outside and to take advantage to learn more about the many plants around the school. In music, children are starting to learn the school song and listen to percussion instruments and learn the materials in which they are made of.

七年级:七年级的学生是学校中年纪最大的学生,在生活上,是低年级孩子们的哥哥姐姐,在学习上,也是他们学习的榜样。教授七年级的老师们表示,学生们充沛的精力和积极向上的学习态度令他们铭记于心。七年级的学生们在老师们的监督和教育下,养成了阅读的习惯,尤其喜欢喜欢语文课上的阅读时间。数学课堂上的小测验十分成功,学生们的表现卓越,成绩优秀,同时也从中建立了足够的信心。在德育课上,与低年级的孩子们不同,七年级的学生喜欢在课堂上表达自己的想法,老师们也很欣赏他们创新的观点,活跃的思维以及审辨式的思考。在STEAM课上,学生们开始设计桥梁,学生们也很乐意学习国家课程所要求的知识。除此之外,和其他年级不同,从开学到现在,学校每周的升旗仪式也都由七年级学生负责。在升旗仪式中,代表全校师生,铿锵有力的国旗下演讲,伴随着国歌缓缓升起的国旗,七年级学生为低年级学生树立了一个好的榜样,也为所有人留下了深刻的印象。

Grade 7: Grade 7 students are our oldest students. They are serving as very good role models for the younger students. The grade 7 teachers have expressed that they are very much impressed with the high levels of energy and positive attitudes of the students. The Grade 7 students have got into the habit of reading and they enjoy the reading time in the Chinese lesson. Students have taken some small tests in math and the results are quite good, thus building students’ confidence. The Grade 7 students like to express their own ideas in the Moral Education lesson and the teacher did appreciate their opinions and their active thinking and critical thinking skills. In the STEAM, students have started to design bridges. The Geography teacher reports that students are readily learning the knowledge required by the national curriculum. One more piece of good news is that the Grade 7 students were in charge of the flag raising task and they set a good example for the lower graders and both the flag raisers and the speech-makers impressed the whole school.
